Shannon Italia

Rethreaded Board Chair

Shannon has worked at UNF since 2005 and is the founding Director of the Career Management Center in the Coggin College of Business; she loves working with college students and has been recognized on campus and in the community for her efforts. Prior to her time at UNF, Shannon spent 15 years in industry working in sales and management roles at Fortune 500 companies. Shannon serves on the Executive Board of the Jacksonville Women’s Business Center. She is the founder and advisor to the UNF Women in Business Society and also serves on the board of CoPassion. In August 2014, Shannon was recognized as a Woman of Influence by the Jacksonville Business Journal. Shannon holds a B.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Cincinnati and a M.B.A. from the University of North Florida.

Whitney Harper

Rethreaded Vice Board Chair

Whitney is the Managing Director at Advos Legal. She is known for delivering high-value service to her clients through her unique understanding of the intersection of law, operations, sales and strategy. Whitney has also held an executive-level role with responsibility for Operational and Commercial Strategy, focused on bringing increased value to the company and its customers through innovation and improved performance. She began her career practicing labor and employment law and general litigation with a well-respected Jacksonville firm. Whitney is an alumna of Leadership Jacksonville’s 2012 class. She holds a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from the University of Florida and a Juris Doctor, with high honors, from the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Florida Law Review. In her spare time, Whitney enjoys spending time with her family near and on the beautiful waters on Jacksonville, Florida.

Whitney's favorite part of working at Rethreaded is getting to experience the tangible hope of lives being transformed. Each time she comes into Rethreaded she feels she has a front row seat to miracles.

Joel Chamberlain CPA

Rethreaded Board Treasurer

Joel seeks to use his financial talents to help the ministry make a difference in women’s lives on both a global and local level. Joel is proud to be married to his wonderful wife, Staci,who is an amazing mother to their two daughters, Makena and Maddison. Joel is founding member and Partner at Gunn Chamberlain, P.L.  Joel currently serves on a variety of boards including: Rethreaded, American Enterprise Bank; Project SOS; and the Joseph LaRose foundation. Joel is a licensed CPA in the State of Florida and also a member of several professional and social organizations including the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce; the FICPA; the AICPA; Epping Forest Yacht Club; and enjoys Sunday morning worship at Southside United Methodist Church.

Joel witnesses how compassion, business, education, and training have helped Rethreaded unravel the effects of human trafficking in a way that is scalable to make a global impact.

Carman Kasper

Rethreaded Board Secretary

Carman Kasper is the Office Manager at Kasper Architecture with the primary task of chief financial officer and human resources manager. She is passionate about Christian education and has been involved for 13 years with her children’s school; Christ’s Church Academy.  At CCA she spearheaded multiple fundraising and development campaigns as well as holding various leadership positions within the Parent Teacher Partnership.  Carman is a graduate of the University of Florida, where she received a Bachelors in Marketing. Mission trips to Cambodia, Zambia, Honduras and Mexico have given Carman the desire to help “least of these.”

Best part of working at Rethreaded:

Carman honors Jesus' commandment “to love God and love others”. She is grateful for Kristin committing her life to helping women overcome troubles and giving them an opportunity to make a better life. She is honored to join Rethreaded's mission to help others.


Melissa Teferra

Rethreaded Board Member

Before moving to Jacksonville, Melissa Teferra worked in India and Rwanda with victims of slavery and oppression; she designed and established programs to prevent revictimization and promote the independence of survivors. Melissa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who supervises the Community Action Team (CAT) at Child Guidance Center.  The CAT program is an interdisciplinary therapeutic team providing services to youth and their families when youth are at risk of out of home placements. She serves on the executive board of the North Florida Coalition of Human Trafficking and provides training on human trafficking and trauma in the community.  She worships with New Life Christian Fellowship and unwinds by practicing and competing with the Jacksonville Rowing Club.

Best part of working at Rethreaded:

Melissa's passion for the oppressed and overlooked drew her to Rethreaded. Her favorite thing about Rethreaded is how authentically real the people are and how they seek to draw out the best in everyone who comes through their doors, no matter the reason they came.

Princess Evans

Rethreaded Board Member

Princess Evans is a small business owner and consultant with over 25 years of experience in Workforce Development and Employment Counseling, and over 10 years experience working in Addictions and Transition Counseling. Former employers include the Baltimore Sun, the Florida Times Union, Goodwill of North Florida and the City Rescue Mission.  She has a certification with the American Association of Addiction Counselors, and servers as a board member for the Jacksonville Network for Strengthening Families; serves as a Chair for the Jacksonville Housing Authority, Program Coordinating Committee; and is a former board member and convention director for the Home Education Resources and Information, Inc. Princess is a graduate of Towson State University, in Towson, Maryland, where she received a Bachelors in Communication.

Princess is building and growing with Rethreaded because it is a dynamic organization impacting future generation as they minister to women, and ultimately, families. Individuals serving and working in relationship with the organization will forever view the sex trade differently, and will consistently gain the ability to identify and aid true victims in our society.

Barbara Emener Karasek

Rethreaded Board Member

1 Corinthians 12:7 “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.”

Called to use her spiritual gifts to impact social enterprise movements, Barbara has been involved with Rethreaded as a strategic growth advisor since 2015. Following a 20+ year career in global business development, consumer marketing, retail, licensing, sponsorship, and operations roles for SeaWorld Entertainment, PGA TOUR, NASCAR, USOC and more, Barbara currently serves as an entrepreneur, investor and strategic advisor to a variety of companies and non-profits. Barbara received a Bachelors in Sociology from Furman University, where she attended on a four-year scholarship and was a standout Division I volleyball player and team captain, and earned Masters in Mass Communication from the University of South Florida, which honored her in 2008 with its Outstanding Alumnus Award. Barbara completed coursework in Strategic Marketing Management at Harvard Business School, SalesForce leadership training, and is involved in many industry associations. Barbara and her former professional basketball player husband, Tony, stay busy with sports-related hobbies, church activities, and a never-ending search for the perfect fishing spot.

Lawson Carr

Rethreaded Advisory Board Chair

Lawson Carr is an Account Director with Harden, where he partners with businesses to solve complex issues specific to employee benefits and human resources. He and his team of subject matter experts consult to understand all areas of risk, then design, implement and manage solutions that allow clients to focus on the success of their business. Lawson earned his B.B.A. in risk management and insurance from the University of Georgia. In 2009, he and his wife, Chelsea, relocated to the Riverside neighborhood of Jacksonville where they work, live and play. He has served in a number of volunteer roles in addition to working with Rethreaded, including being active at his church, as a board member for Riverside Avondale Preservation (RAP), and as Neimyah’s mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Best part of working at Rethreaded:

Lawson is inspired by the tangible change he sees in lives every time he visits the Rethreaded warehouse and retail store. He also believes his role at Rethreaded gives him a platform to talk to other men about the effects of the sex trade industry.
